Review of The Curious Tale of Fi-Rex

November 1, 2015

The lovely people at Fat Fox publishing sent me this book for an open and honest review.  You may have heard about this book as it has gained quite a bit of press recently.

Imagine your favourite celebrities playing a huge game of Consequences and you get “The Curious Tale of Fi Rex”.

The story follows a little girl who is half girl, half dinosaur. This concept was an instant hit in our house with our love for dinosaurs. Fi-Rex then goes on a magical journey encountering Lions, otters, a trio of ducks and a the famous band of frogs- Pond Direction!

The book was written by a host of celebrities who were each given the last line of the page before. They then had to write the next part. From an adult point of view I had a little chuckle when I noticed little references to the authors. Wayne Rooney writing about three lions and Sir Paul McCartney and his singing frogs certainly kept me entertained.

As you may expect, the story is completely mad but flows really well. A loved reading a few pages each night to see how Fi-Rex managed to get home.

The illustrations bring each page to life. It really is a beautiful book!

The even better news is that this books has been written in aid of Children in Need. The celebrities are auctioning off their signed pages and money from the sales of the books will also be going to the charity.

As a teacher I can see this book easily being written in to the curriculum to extend children’s writing skills and also support a great cause. I hope my class enjoy reading the book as much as I did.

Go read this book today and support children all over the country at the same time. I feel privileged to have been one of the first people to read such an amazing book!
